She’s gone. She left the tracks with her two hats.

The librarian stood there, telling her that the train will come again even if he knew it won’t.

By the tracks were his books. Scores on the shelves. He had read every story, he had anticipated it all…

And yet he was proven wrong.

Or was he?

She stood for what she believed in, as did he. And he found himself asking what was his lack.

Faith.

People would normally do and give everything to ensure their survival. They were selfish creatures who would save only of their blood or those who were useful to them. Then they would cast off those who are simply a burden; the lost… the unloved ones.

He determined that humans were not worth their existence; that he hated this world filled with such pretentious creatures.

But she had faith… and in that hope she gave herself.

He simply wondered why… why would she give herself up for such a pathetic cause.

Love.

They were different sides of the same cause. Hers is an ideal that asserted itself as truth. His is a truth that asserted itself as ideal.

He tested her device, as fate would have it, on three children. Lost children. Unloved. Unwanted.

But even as fate stole everything from them, they had found happiness. The unloved loved each other, and in that love there was the fruit - happiness. They loved each other despite knowing that their sibling bonds was nothing but a mere illusion…

They shared the fruit of fate out of love.

What could really save this world… what could really save what meant the world to them…

He wasn’t wrong, it was his devices that were.

Love. It was the true survival strategy.

It wasn’t the world; no, it was him, Sanetoshi Watase, who dangled on the edge of sanity and he was grateful that he met someone like her.

He walked on, toward his beloved Momoka from the tracks.
