“I met Lola Purping during our “photo-walk” at Binondo today. She was sitting quietly at the gutter right outside the San Lorenzo Ruiz Church. I couldn’t help but noticed the big lump on her face that she is trying to cover with her hair. She would throw some shy glances at me perhaps because she felt uneasy that a big guy carrying a huge camera is staring at her. I smiled at her and she timidly smiled back at me. I sat besides her and tried to strike a conversation.
Lola Purping is a street dweller from Samar. She is about 70 years old with poor eyesight and carrying a large tumor near her face. She and her grandchildren would sleep with empty stomachs on the streets where and whenever the night would catch them. I told her that she is a bit old to take care of her grandchildren. She told me that her children left her without a choice as they went to Cotobato and never returned until now.
2 days ago, she lost her few valuables, money and medicines to a pickpocket as she was going out of the church where she stays from morning till afternoon.
I asked her if I can take her photo and put her story on my blog hoping that some kind souls might be able to offer some help – any help. With tears on her eyes, she nodded.
If you happen to pass by San Lorenzo Ruiz Church in Binondo, you might see Lola Purping quietly sitting along the gutter when she is not inside the church praying. Please offer a kind smile to her.

At least you’re honest!! I mean, I like Lyn a lot, probably because she’s so totally flawed. IDK, that feels real to me. Most people are incredibly selfish, and considering her canon-canon age is 15, I don’t find that surprising at all. I also don’t find her stalling and fight-picking to be surprising. I mean, 15. Most people at 15 are prats.
I admit that I agree on most points despite disagreeing on the errr not relevance, the uhmmm, importance(?)/impact of them. I mean, honestly, Lyn was a two-bit gag character thrown in to introduce the non-Japanese public to Fire Emblem. Strangely enough, I’m okay with that. The game would have been a lot more dull if not for her initial 10 chapters. But then, they’re my favorite part of the game so I am definitely biased.
Either way, I am actually offended at the fact that she was thrown in to be useless. Her endings are all useless. I’m not offended that someone was smart enough to notice this and call it out, because it’s true. Whoever marries Hector gets the same ending. It’s like, what? Why can’t they have spent five minutes on coming up with a better “ending” there, right? Two seconds, even. Not just copying the same ending Farina/Florina gets.
Blah blah et cetera, it’s like how Fiora and Ninian get the same endings practically for Eliwood. Yawn. Or better yet, Nino’s endings with Jaffar and Erk are practically the same. This makes them interchangeable and I find that extremely annoying.
But back to Lyndis: Because she’s so throwaway, it can be really hard to get into her character, into her Future, because her role in-game changes absolutely nothing. It’s maddening! How can you really get into telling a story about Lyndis when it has absolutely no bearing on the sequel game, on her future?
If she goes off on the plains and rots, or squeezes out Sue, or marries Hector (and dies), or marries Eliwood (and dies)— none of these things matter. She’s not in FE6. We can pretend she’s fighting in skirmishes in Sacae, or defending Caelin, or raising babies and staying in hiding, or whatever, but there isn’t some over-reaching attachment to the plot for her, which is disappointing because it’s so easy to weave most of the FE7 cast into FE6…but not her. At least not very believably.
When you add her non-important-role self in alone, it’s not so bad. Because let’s face it, Nino’s FE6 role kind of sucks, Canas gets defeated by a blizzard, and Vaida is probably dead before FE6. The issue here is that she’s supposed to be a main character. And she has these glaring faults on top of it all. So then, what is her role? To be naive and unimportant, to be a shit-stirrer? What?
I mean, I love Lyndis, but she seriously got the short end of the stick as far as main characters go. She’s a huge focal point for 10 chapters— understandable, because of the introduction to FE it was written for!— but after that it was like, she might as well have not even been there! And that’s bullshit.

this is also why I can’t hate Lyn. Her story was made so sucky [to preserve what FE6 had going] that I want to hug her until she feels better. the writers did not appreciate Lyn enough to even bother to retcon for her. they’re like, “LET’S INTRODUCE A FEMALE LORD CHARACTER SO NO ONE WOULD THINK WE’RE TOTAL SEXIST PIGS. PUT A BIT OF A FANSERVICE LEGS HERE… YESSS. AND THEN JUST THROW HER OUT OF THE WINDOW WHEN WERE DONE.”
